Spy Hop is a 501(c)3 educational non-profit and is dependant for its funding from you and other caring people like you.
Every day at Spy Hop, courageous youth step behind the camera, in front of the microphone, or sit at the keyboard and impress us with their authentic stories and unique perspectives. Spy Hop's 2009-2010 Annual Giving Campaign is an opportunity for you to demonstrate that the creative and meaningful contributions of these youth are valued in our community.
As the only youth media organization in the Intermountain West, your support allows 700 local youth per year to unleash their creative visions through filmmaking, music, radio and digital design. It is also because of your direct support that Spy Hop has grown to be one of the leading youth media organizations in the nation. We are equally proud of the many accomplishments of our young media makers and recognize that their success is made possible because of you.
This year, students produced documentary films that explored topics such as toxic waste in Utah; a young man's quest to understand his brother's leukemia; a girl mourning the loss of her father's death, while simultaneously coming to terms with her sexuality; refugees in Utah and their struggle to find their sense of place; a lighthearted profile of a woman who owns the largest marble collection in the United States and many more compelling subjects.
Other Spy Hop students delved into creative projects like the imaginative, animated story that took us on a journey to another world or the original hip-hop song about a straight 'A' student's decline to drug use and eventual overdose. Still others inspired us with inventive, soulful songs emerging from our new Musicology and Spy Hop Records programs.
Before you consider making a gift this year, please take a moment to consider how your contribution directly supports young people in becoming critical thinkers, engaged citizens and educated media makers. Thanks to your generosity, Salt Lake area youth can continue to develop a deep appreciation for diversity while gaining essential technical, aesthetic, and life skills.
