Born out of Spy Hop’s mission of giving a voice to all local youth, Sending Messages reaches a population that rarely has that opportunity. Beginning in 2010, students at a secure care youth corrections facility in Salt Lake City were given recording and editing equipment to create their own radio show. Each month, they write, perform, record and produce personal narratives, poetry, short fiction, spoken word, and interviews that are then compiled into podcasts.

Awarded a City Weekly ARTY Award and BEST OF UTAH 2011, Sending Messages has reached thousands of listeners around the world. Beginning in 2011, we’ll be working with four different facilities, giving diversity to the podcast, and opportunity to more youth around Salt Lake Valley.
