Liz Coleman

Liz Coleman is a New York native but has found that living in Salt Lake City has changed her outlook and approach to life.

Liz is currently working toward a degree in Composition and Rhetoric through the English department at the University of Utah—pursuing her degree casually, knowing there is a great deal to experience and learn from life. She began writing at the age of 8 and publishing during high school. Liz is a poet and an essayist.

Her passion for writing and helping people of all backgrounds and abilities to find a voice in their community inspired Liz to begin free-lance writing instruction to youth. She’s taught at Rowland Hall-St. Marks School Art Start Program and Writers@Work's Young Writers Conferences. Working at the SLCC Community Writing Center as the Writing Specialist, Liz saw the need for access to information and education for practical as well as personal needs. Because of her love of radio and her experience with the Community Writing Center, she felt Spy Hop was a natural next step in working with the community in which she lives.

Since 2004, Liz has been volunteering in local community radio—writing, producing and teaching. She was the host of Friday Drive Time on KRCL 90.9fm in Salt Lake City. Radio’s ability to reach diverse communities, promote ideas and communication and its availability and accessibility draw Liz to this form of media. She is delighted to be working at Spy Hop to offer youth radio programs.
